Escape from the hectic pace of everyday life with a visit to Annapolis Royal’s beautiful Historic Gardens, 17 acres of horticultural excellence, often described as “Nova Scotia’s Hidden Treasure”!
Complementing the heritage buildings of Annapolis Royal, are many beautiful gardens. And the jewel of these heritage gardens is the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, opened in 1981 and designed to reflect the various periods of local history through a gardening perspective. Highlights include a Victorian Garden and Governor’s Garden, Innovative Garden, Knot Garden and a Rose Collection (almost 2000 bushes of 240 cultivars!) which illustrates the development of roses through the ages.
A special feature is a replica of a 1671 Acadian House, complete with thatched roof, and an Acadian garden. These historically themed gardens are linked by paths through other display areas featuring trees, ponds, grasses, perennials, arbours, and beautiful vistas.
Renowned as one of Canada’s finest gardens, the HistoricGardens has become a major attraction as a living museum and a great resource for garden enthusiasts.
